It's at the Printers!
TVOT members will soon receive their annual  pocket calendars in the mail along with their Fall Newsletters. We encourage members to keep both handy as they are great references for elementary Occasional Teachers in Thames Valley.

Benefit Plan for LTOS

The ETFO ELHT benefits plan provides coverage for LTOs in teaching assignment must be 90-consecutive calendar days or longer

  • Enrolment in the benefits plan is mandatory for 1.0 teacher in an LTO assignment for 90 consecutive days or longer;
  • Benefits coverage will begin on the first day of a known 90+ calendar assignment and coverage will cease upon termination of the assignment; and
  • Must be one continuous assignment of at least 90 consecutive calendar days (e.g. a 45-day assignment followed by another 45-day assignment will not constitute eligibility).
  • Enrollment information will come from OTIP through your TVDSB email.

Part-time Pro-rated Premiums
Occasional Teachers in eligible LTO assignments where the FTE is less than 1.0 and who voluntarily opt into health and/or dental benefits will be required to pay health and dental premiums on a pro-rated basis (e.g. 0.6 FTE would be required to pay 40% of the monthly premium for health and dental; 0.2 FTE would be required to pay 80%, etc.), retroactive to the first day of the eligible LTO assignment.

Combining Permanent and LTO Contracts
LTO eligibility rules may be combined with contract eligibility rules – for example, where a 0.5 permanent teacher also has a 0.5 LTO teaching assignment of 90 consecutive days or longer, the member may combine eligibility and premium share to receive full benefits coverage with no member contribution for the duration of the LTO assignment. Following the completion of the LTO assignment, should the member voluntarily opt to maintain health and/or dental benefits, the member will be responsible for paying 50% of the premiums for health and dental as required by the eligibility rules for part-time permanent employees.

October Strike Vote; Columbia Outlet Invitation; ETFO PD for Women Members; Health & Safety

IMPORTANT

ETFO Mass Meeting / Strike Vote for Teachers and Occasional Teachers

October 5th - Budweiser Gardens

(further details to follow)

On August 14, ETFO Provincial President Karen Brown announced that ETFO would be taking central strike votes early this fall. Provincial ETFO has been engaged in bargaining at two central tables (Teacher/Occasional Teacher and Education Worker) for a year, but no agreements have yet been reached.
No progress has been made at the ETFO Teacher/Occasional Teacher Central Table, with the government/school board bargaining team refusing to engage meaningfully around priority issues such as special education supports, violence in schools, compensation, fair hiring practices and the staffing crisis in education.
As a result, an in-person Central Strike Vote will be held at Budweiser Gardens in London following an all-member information meeting for ETFO Thames Valley Teachers and Occasional Teachers.  Further details will be released as they become available.

More Money for Members; Strike Votes; ETFO Websites;

The Wednesday Blog is Back with great opportunities for TVOT members as we begin the 2023-2024 school year:

1) Daily OTs and LTOs of .5 FTE or less, are eligible for 2 days of pay if they complete TVDSB's mandatory training (in the spring) and if they participate in paid PD opportunities. Currently there are 9 online eligible offerings in the Employee Portal under Conference/Session Registration, each of which counts as a half day of work. These can be completed at your leisure. Follow the steps and be sure to submit your reflection form to Staff Development to ensure payment.

2) Your TVOT Local has increased our Resource Rebate to $75/year for members to purchase a professional book or resources related to their elementary teaching needs. Register at www.etfotvot.com to access the application form.

3) Your TVOT Local has increased our Professional Learning Development Fund / PLDF to $500/year for members who have been with us for at least 12 months, who wish to take courses related to their elementary teaching. Register at www.etfotvot.com to access the application form.

________________

Though our Collective Agreements expired a year ago, elementary Teachers have been unable to reach a deal with the government. Therefore, ETFO will be holding strike votes for all members this fall. It is imperative that all TVOT members register on our Local website www.etfotvot.com so as to receive updates regarding both Central table bargaining and our Local negotiations. We also encourage members keep abreast by following these steps at https://etfocb.ca/stay-in-touch-2/easy-to-stay-in-touch/
